- Students who are majoring in Communication Studies are eligible to earn 4 to 12 Internship credits towards their degree per 10 week quarter. Students who are earning a minor in Communication Studies may earn up to 8 Internship credits. Students become eligible to participate in the Internship Program when they have successfully completed at least five courses in our major. Most Interns are seniors in their last few quarters before graduation.
|
- Students may earn Internship credits where they are alreadyemployed, however, they must take on new responsibilities or a new project that differs from their employment prior to earning credits. In other words, students may not earn Internship credits for job duties they are already performing.
- The number of credits for which they have registered corresponds to the number of hours they must work at their Internship during the 10 week quarter.
- 4 credits = 150 hours (15 per week)
- 8 credits = 250 hours (25 per week)
- 12 credits = 400 hours (40 per week)

- Students are responsible to locate and secure their Internship site and negotiate the job description and work schedule with their supervisor. Students select Intern sites based on their particular career interests and educational background. Students will provide the Intern site supervisor with a "SStudent Internship Agreement Form." Once this form has been completed and submitted
to the Internship Program Coordinator the student is free to begin the Internship experience.
|
- Our Internship Program does not put stipulations on whether students receive wages or a stipend for their work. Students understand they are receiving valuable work experience in exchange for their labor. Also, students understand that there is no expectation of continued paid employment with the internship site but are in no way prohibited from accepting employment.
|
- The Internship Program requests that internship sites provide on-the-job supervision and any training necessary for students to succeed in this experience. In many cases this may be an introduction to the field through observation and minor participation. In other cases, students bring rich work experiences in addition to their academic experiences and are fully utilized as valuable additions
to the worksite.
|
- Internship sites are asked to provide regular feedback to students on their work performance and a formal evaluation is required at the end of the ten week quarter. Students are responsible for providing their supervisor with this form.
|
- Students are required to attend four, two-hour internship meetings, write three journals, complete a term paper applying communication theories to their work experiences and also give a presentation. Please allow students to attend these meetings (which may unavoidably be held during their scheduled time at the Internship site) and count attendance at these meetings towards their Internship
hours.
