Leslie T. Good earned her Ph.D. in Communication at Stanford University in 1986. She served as a member of the Communication faculty at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst for three years before joining the PSU faculty in 1989.
Dr. Good's scholarly work within media studies focuses on the politics of the image in everyday life. Her research is grounded in a central concern with the relationship between power and communication. Her primary interests are: The influence of photography on the history of media studies, the role of the image in collective memory, empowering uses of community media, and the intersection of art and social criticism.
She has published and presented essays on issues of power, and edited a scholarly book series, Critical Studies in Communication, for Hampton Press. She is also a documentary photographer, and produces images for exhibition and academic publication. Her photographs most recently appeared in the 2004 book, The Portland Edge.
Dr. Good's philosophy of teaching is integral to her scholarly interests and critical orientation. She is committed to mentorship within a model of participatory methods of learning. She has developed and taught a wide range of courses in both media studies and organizational communication.
